Jelena Jankovic extended her career record against Daniela Hantuchova to 6-3 today in Paris, winning their first round match 6-4, 7-6 (7). After a rain break, Jankovic came back from 0-5 in the second set (Hantuchova + time to think = well, you know). Jankovic's next opponent will be up-and-coming Spanish player Garbine Muguruza.
Sam Stosur advanced easily over Kimiko Date-Krumm, and Dominika Cibulkova defeated Lesia Tsurenko.
Several matches scheduled for today were postponed until tomorrow because of the rain.

Funny how this slam starts on a Sunday, yet it's going to take four days to complete the 1st Round, while the others start on a Monday and get through it in two (usually).
And two of the players (of the total of twenty women still on the shelf) waiting until Day 4 to finally play are last year's #1 seed (Vika) and a '12 semifinalist (Kvitova), while all the "top" men have gotten the chance to get their first match out of the way.
I also feel that the longer Petra has to wait, the worse it gets, if you know what I mean.
There's a bit of a strange feeling in the air--at least for me--about this tournament. If the rain ceases, I guess it will start to feel "normal" again. Bartoli's opening round only added to the strangeness (I mean, she pulled this stunt in the first round!).
I know--It's drifting through the streets of Paris, rising with the steam from all the cafe au lait, blending in with the gargoyles. Makes you shiver.
