Russian Fed Cup team announced for 2011 1st round

Captain Shamil Tarpishchev has announced the members of Russia's Fed Cup team for the first round of 2011 play. Competing for Russia will be Maria Sharapova, Svetlana Kuznetsova, Dinara Safina, and Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova. Russia will play France on the 5th and 6th of February in Moscow. The matches will be played on an indoor hard court.

Interesting that Safina is mentioned before she tests out her back and play. Does this mean they know something we don't know? I am assuming he would have a back-up ready. I would be happy if Safina would be well enough to play Fed cup after a warm-up and major in Australia.

I just read on Tennis.com that someone in the Sharapova camp said it was only likely that Sharapova would play.Look under "Headlines" on the right side of the site of Tennis.com

The official announcement was that Sharapova has "committed" to play. Of course, by February, anything can happen. Three of the four have ongoing injury issues.
